Reilly Is Only Democratic Candidate for Lower Income Taxes
       State Treasurer Timothy Cahill, who has had a close relationship with Tom Reilly over the years, made the stunning announcement yesterday that he is endorsing Deval Patrick for Governor because Reilly is in favor of lowering the income tax.
       Cahill immediately qualified his endorsement with a statement that he did it “despite differences in their ideology” and that Patrick’s positions "obviously endear him with a wing of the party, but it is going to make it difficult for him to win in the end."
       Cahill’s primary reason for the endorsement was his opposition to any effort to reduce income taxes, which is a major plank of Reilly’s platform.
       Reilly’s campaign replied that he respects Cahill but Gabrieli and Patrick are just wrong on taxes. He stated: “Working people need an immediate tax break, deserve an immediate tax break and the state can clearly afford it after two successive years of $1 billion surpluses. Deval Patrick and Chris Gabrieli continue to ignore the will of the voters and would rather give the money to the Legislature to spend than put it back in people's pockets.”
