Boston Herald
Picks Reilly
The Boston
Herald has endorsed Tom Reilly in the Democratic primary, a day after
the Boston Globe backed Deval Patrick.
The Herald endorsement,
on newsstands today, praises Reilly’s “strength of character,”
listing his efforts as attorney general and saying: “That kind
of courage, that kind of integrity is hard to find in public life
these days.” The paper also picked Deb Goldberg in the race
for Lieutenant Governor, after the Globe chose Timothy Murray.
As expected, both Bay Windows
and the Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus endorsed Patrick.
The Caucus has been one of the most influential lobbying groups on
Beacon Hill, until this summer, when their lead lobbyist was arrested
soliciting sex for money from UMass students.
The gays have been angry
ever since he refused in 2002 to rule that the Protection of Marriage
Amendment was not qualified to appear before the voters. His decision
was approved by an unanimous SJC.
The Western Massachusetts
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Political Alliance endorsed
Democrat Deval Patrick for governor, it was announced by the Patrick
campaign on Monday.
