Reilly Enters
Debate Tonight With Growing List of Endorsements
Attorney
General Tom Reilly will enter the gubernatorial debate tonight with
a new infusion of endorsements.
Five city Councilors, two
state Senators, and two state Reps from Boston officially announced
their backing of Reilly yesterday. The Councilors are Rob Consalvo
(Hyde Park), Maureen Feeney (Dorchester), James Kelly (South Boston),
Michael Ross (Back Bay), and Salvatore LaMattina (East Boston). The
state legislators are Sen. Steven Tolman (Brighton), Sen. Jack Hart
(South Boston), state Reps Marty Walsh (Dorchester) and Kevin Honan
(Brighton).
Earlier this week, Reilly
received the official endorsement from a number of labor unions boasting
over 100,000 members. He also has the support from other Boston officials
including Mayor Menino, Congressman Stephen F. Lynch, State Senate
President Robert Travaglini, state Rep Marie St. Fleur, and former
Suffolk District Attorney Ralph Martin.
Many have speculated that
Reilly needs high profile endorsements and a strong showing in the
debate tonight to beat Deval Patrick in the primaries. Recent Boston
Globe polls have put Reilly behind Patrick and Chris Gabrieli.
The debate tonight is at
7:00 p.m. and is sponsored by a number of media outlets- NECN, WCVB-TV,
WGBH, 7NEWS, and 90.9 WBUR. It will be moderated by former New Hampshire
Gov. Jeanne Shaheen, director of the Institute of Politics at the
Kennedy School.
The candidates will field
questions from Janet Wu, Andy Hiller and Bob Oakes and will be held
at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
