Legislature
Creates “Super Commission” for Gay Youth
On
Thursday night last week, the Massachusetts legislature created an
independent Commission designed to further the agenda of gay activist
groups throughout the state.
The
Boston Globe has not reported on this new Commission, nor has any
other media. All the Globe reported was on Friday under the headline
“Romney Abolishes Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth”,
but they gave only two sentences to the fact that a larger, more extensive
Commission was replacing it. MassNews has gone through the effort
of obtaining the transcript of the debate on Beacon Hill that created
it, and uncovered the details on this Commission.
New Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth Will be Replacing Governor’s
Commission
A
new “Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth” will be replacing
the “Governor’s Commission for Gay and Lesbian Youth,”
which has been in existence for over 14 years. The new Commission
will be better funded and will operate with no oversight from anyone
in state. The law creating it says “The Commission shall be
an independent agency of the commonwealth and shall not be subject
to the control of any other department or agency.”
In the past,
the Governor’s Commission has received between $500,000 and
$1.5 million every year to help with the organizing of workshops and
conferences, like the infamous “Fistgate” conference at
Tufts. It has been the sponsor of Gay/Straight Alliance clubs in schools,
compulsory sensitivity training for teachers and materials for children
as young as the first grade.
The new Commission
will receive more than $2 million of public money. Not having any
government oversight means that the board of directors will be able
to utilize whatever private monies they can raise to achieve their
ends. The law specifically states that the Commission may “use
voluntary and uncompensated services of private individuals, agencies
and organizations that may from time to time be offered and needed”.
Consequently, if a gay organization like Mass Equality which has a
seat on the Board wants to give “gay marriage information packets”
to every student in the entire state school system, the Board can
okay that and there is no other state entity that can stop it.
In addition
to Mass Equality having a seat on the Board of the Commission, it
is mandated that there shall be 2 persons appointed by the Fenway
Community Health Center, 4 persons appointed by the Greater Boston
Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, 2 persons appointed
by the Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus, and 2 persons
appointed by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network of Boston.
