Globe Reads MassNews --- and Denounces Us as “Haters” Because We Don’t
Agree with Everything They Write
Even though we know
the Boston Globe has read MassNews every day since our first appearance
in 1998, they don’t usually admit it except when the truth really
hurts. That happened yesterday (Sunday) when the Globe responded to
our Friday story about the split of Julie and Hillary Goodridge.
Yesterday’s response
from the Globe said that the Goodridges were “the poster couple” for
same sex marriage who were chosen by their lawyers because they were
“as schooled in public relations as they were in discrimination law.”
It said that their longtime relationship insulates them from the “ugliness”
that will come in the wake of their separation.
And then they
quoted us where we wrote on Friday: "The timing of the split is causing many to wonder if their `love'
at the time of the lawsuit was a sham.” And it is true that many are
wondering that. Any reasonable person must consider that.
But the people at the Globe are not
reasonable. They said we “sneered” that comment and we are “haters”
from “the right-wing.”
The answer from the Globe came in the
form of an article from their most respected columnist, Eileen McNamara.
