Julie and Hillary Goodridge
are Splitting
The lead couple
in the “Goodridge” gay marriage case, Julie and Hillary Goodridge
are splitting, two years after they were married at one of the first
gay marriage ceremonies in the state. Unlike when they married on
May 17, 2004, the Goodridges are requesting that “their privacy be
respected.” The Globe reports today that on the day of the wedding,
they went to Boston’s City Hall for their license “mobbed by news
media and guarded by police.” They were married later that day by
a Unitarian minister. They are now in hiding and have a spokesperson,
a longtime lesbian advocate, Mary Breslauer. The timing of the split is causing many to wonder
if their “love” at the time of the lawsuit was a sham. Their attorneys
at that time spent many hours finding the perfect couple to be the
lead spokesperson for the lawsuit.
The couple has a
daughter, Annie, 10.
