New
York Times Needed Help of Journalism Deans
The
New York Times has reached the point where it needed a small group
of Deans from Journalism schools to band together yesterday to defend
it. Such an occurrence would have been unheard of only a few years
ago. Needless to say, they were all very liberal.
The most troubling
was Columbia University, which has always had financial support from
the owners of the New York Times since the day of Adolph Ochs in the
beginning of the last century when he served on its Board. His daughter, Iphigene received a degree there
despite her problems with dyslexia as did her son, Punch Sulzberger,
who also struggled with dyslexia. But even the Sulzberger money could
not help Pinch Sulzberger who had to settle for Tufts University in
Boston.
