No Winners Among 23 Challengers to Incumbent Reps

There were no winners among the 23 challengers to incumbent reps, and only three scored above the magical 40% to indicate a possible re-run opportunity.

The best showing again was on the Cape, where Larry Wheatley (R-Barnstable) obtained 47% against Rep. Matthew Patrick (D-Falmouth) in a rematch of two years ago where Wheatley lost by only 17 votes. Patrick had the support of all the homosexual groups. One had to wonder where the Governor was on this race.

Judith Judson (R-Topsfield) got 42% against Rep. Theodore Spiliotis (D-Danvers), who was endorsed by all the homosexual groups.

Maria Marasco (R-Andover) also got 42% against her opponent Rep. Barbara L’Italien (D-Andover).

George Field (R-Wellesley) ran a strong 39% but this is his second try, having garnered 44% last time. Perhaps with help from the professionals at Article 8, he might be able to make it if he were to try again.

Ned Kirby (R-Whitman) received only a disappointing 35%.
