Carolyn Abbotts Reponse to Kingsley Locke's e-mail Thanks, Kingsley, for expressing what I and many others have thought for quite some time. Mr. Pawlick seems to have an axe to grind, almost as though he thinks he owns this issue and doesn't want any others to take a leadership role. That's not how things work in the Internet age -- campaigns like the one we're all working on are grassroots driven and no one person or organization is 'in charge.' Leaders emerge, contribute their talents and gifts along the way to encourage and model for others, and fade into the background when their role is no longer needed. I believe the '90s term for this was 'synergetic leadership." It's a completely different model than the authoritarian, top-down model that has gone the way of the Edsel and Model T, most likely the one that was dominant when Mr. Pawlick was growing up and so is the one with which he is most comfortable. It's unfortunate he doesn't seem to understand that, because the Pawlicks have clearly been tireless campaigners for the rule of law and rooting out the judicial corruption in the state, and we all owe them a considerable debt for their efforts. For him to dismiss the rest of us so cavalierly diminishes him, not us.
