Delay of Marriage Decision by SJC Becomes More Puzzling

The delay by the Supreme
Judicial Court in its decision about gay marriage has become more
puzzling with the announcement that it is also delaying the decision
in the suit by Massachusetts Citizens for Marriage and Sarah McVay
Pawlick which requests the Court to pass their proposed Amendment
on to the new Legislature for action.
The SJC has sent a
notice to the parties that it is waiving in this case its internal
rule that cases should be decided within 130-days.
"We don't know
what to speculate on this announcement. They could just dismiss
this case with one sentence affirming the opinion of the single
justice," said J. Edward Pawlick, attorney for the plaintiffs.
"We knew that
we were going past their self-imposed deadline, but we thought it
was just because the case had gotten lost. This makes it more of
a mystery," he said.
