Globe Says Mass. Legacy Dogs Cellucci

Never Mentions Fistgate

The Boston Globe reported on Dec. 31 that Paul Cellucci’s legacy as Governor was dogging his career as Ambassador to Canada.

The Globe noted problems about patronage and tax cuts, but it left unmentioned the Fistgate scandal which the Governor has never acknowledged.

The only issue which followed Cellucci to Washington and nearly upset his appointment as Ambassador was Fistgate. Many members of Cellucci’s conservative base were greatly upset when he never even acknowledged the scandal. As a result, his appointment was almost derailed and he was forced to give a written statement to Sen. Jesse Helms that he would always follow the policies of President Bush while he was Ambassador.

But the Globe supported what was done at Fistgate and therefore did not once mention it in its disparaging story about the former Governor.
